Compared to last year, where we mostly did all the work ourselves while Carter showed zero interest and fell asleep, Carter was the big helper this year.
It's no secret that I can't stand the smell of pumpkin guts. It makes me gag. So Carter's offer to help this year was definitely welcomed on my part! 
I just stood back and watched while the cleaning was done, and then I stepped in to carve.
Since we didn't have the best of luck last year with the store-bought stencils, we opted to just free-hand it this year.
