Project 52: Week Seventeen {white}

This week includes more than one photo.  I took Kendall up for a little adventure to see the Rooster Tail up at Luck Peak. The Rooster Tail is something that used to be on display daily, up until 1986 when the construction of the Lucky Peak Power Plant began.  Now, the Rooster Tail is on display to the public for a limited time, generally in late April/early May during the spring runoff season.  This limited display is to reduce the wear and tear to the original release structures.  The Rooster Tail itself results from the discharge of water through the original release structures of the dam under high pressure from the lake above the dam. The Army Corps of Engineers uses a "flip bucket" to direct the spray high into the air. Doing this greatly reduces the erosive, scouring nature of the water - shooting the water extremely high so that it dissipates as it rises, rests, and then slowly falls back to the stream channel.

Here are the photos I was able to take today.

Project 52: Week Sixteen {Perspective}

I struggled with this week's theme simply because I had a lot going on at work and at home, especially with Kendall's birthday party.  This little fella is growing outside in one of my pots. One day, it will be a lily.....

Kendall's Birthday Party

So yesterday, we had our families over to celebrate Kendall's first birthday. The weather was gorgeous, so I sent a message to everyone, telling them to bring their law chairs and we would have the party outside. And what a perfect day it turned out to be!  Here are some photos of the day.

I made a double layer carrot cake - I happened to find an amazing recipe online and clearly it was a hit because there wasn't one crumb left over from that cake!
 I decided to do a medium sized cupcake for Kendall. I was originally going to do one of those giant cupcakes, but seriously, they are GIANT. As in, bigger than my double layer cake. No one year old needs something that big. So I found another set that had three molds for medium sized cupcakes and it was perfect!

 This picture cracks me up - looks like she is in the middle of telling a great story!

Opening presents with daddy.

 The girl got a camera!

 And some snazzy new shoes.
 The dog never hurts for attention, seriously.
Time for the birthday girl to get her cake!

She was more adventurous with her cake than her older brother was with his.
 Didn't take much convincing for her to dive right in.

All gone, and alllll over!

I didn't intend for her to eat virtually the whole thing, but hey, you only turn one once, right? It just made for some lovely diapers later in the evening. ;)
We also had an impromptu water fight break out!

 After everyone had gone home, we put together the new bike trailer and took it out for a two mile ride. Kendall loved it!

Happy First Birthday, Kendall!

Happy Birthday to my perfect baby girl. I can't believe it's been a year already. Time flies. I'm thankful for a wonderful year, including the fears, tears, smiles, laughter and adventure. What a personality this girl is developing! I love you baby girl!

The {K} Family

I did a shoot with this family last weekend. My spot was once again flooded (damn you, spring weather!), so it was another creative shoot with limited options. But we made the most of it. I'm only sharing one photo from this shoot as this was the client who specifically requested I don't share her photos online. However, the contract was specific to my business website only, and I do need to share what I taught myself in Photoshop. I know that Photoshop can do some amazing things. I also know that I have barely scratched the surface of what I can do with the program. I use it for editing only. I don't know how to do all that digital scrapbooking or imaging or design. I have no desire to learn either. However, the client had an empty frame and a canvas print of her other daughter who couldn't make it to the shoot. She wanted me to take a picture of the canvas print and insert it into the empty frame. Basically, put a picture into a picture. I figured this would work just like using a texture on a picture, and I was 100% right. I didn't spend a ton of time making the picture fit perfectly into the frame, and honestly, unless you take the pic and zoom all the way in, you would never know. I thought it turned out great - especially give the fact that a canvas print doesn't come off as "clean" - there is texture to it and it doesn't look as crisp. I would recommend just framing the stupid picture and bringing it. But hey, that's just me.  ;)

Project 52: Week Fifteen {movement}

This is a shot I have wanted to get for years. In fact, my aunt, who had me shoot the Depot photo last year, also wants this shot blown up and framed in her house. I went out last night for some "me" time, and attempted this shot. I didn't do any editing simply because it was too windy and I won't be printing these. I will be going back on another Friday/Saturday evening with less wind. I favor the second shot simply because of the "sun" look of the street light to the right side of the frame.

Easter

We didn't get to celebrate easter last year because that was the weekend Kendall was born and I was slightly busy. ;)  We were back on track this year to do egg decorating and a little hunt in the backyard.

 Kendall even sat up at the table to help us out.

After we finished up our hunt at home, we headed over to my parents' house because the easter bunny hopped over there as well.
 And he brought Carter a kite! There was a nice enough breeze to get it up in the air.......and he's been talking non-stop about that kite ever since!
