Those Kids

Carter has his first loose tooth! I'm betting it is out by the time we head to Disneyland. Eric thinks it will be gone within a week. Either way, the tooth fairy will be visting our house soon!

This child.......

 Yeah. CHALLENGE. Every minute of every day.

She still has her sweet moments though.

Good thing she's cute.

Kristi & Casey {save the date}

I shot Kristi and Casey's family pictures last year and now it's time for their save-the-date pictures.  I will be shooting their wedding this fall and can't wait!

Andrew & Florina {wedding}

I also shot this wedding two weekends ago. This was my longest wedding coverage to date - nine hours. NINE. Both the bride and groom are from Romania, as are their families. The ceremony was two hours long, entirely in Romanian. As in, ALL OF IT. I didn't have a clue what was going on, what was said, or when the big events were happening. Fortunately, I had two people helping me out - the brother of the groom, and the guy who was doing video. The video guy is one of my former grooms, and I referred this couple to him. He's an awesome guy and we had a great time working together. We also had quite a few moments during the ceremony when we weren't shooting where we were creating our own translations of the Romanian stuff. It kept the nine hour day pretty light and funny. The entire day was somewhat of a challenge simply because of the language barrier. The bride didn't speak a word of English - this made it pretty hard to convey what I needed her to do for posing. In fact, much of the stuff the couple wanted seemed very cheesy and almost tourist poses, in my opinion. But, their wish was my command, so I got everything they wanted, combined with some stuff I wanted.

We started the day at the brother's house, and then moved to the (dreaded) Depot. It was about 9:45 by the time we got to the Depot, meaning everything I wanted to use was in full sun. This is one reason I hate the Depot for shoots. There is no forgiveness from the sun for the bulk of the day. Plus, it was cold and really windy that morning. Everyone was miserable. We made quick work, until our fingers were numb, and then headed to the church.  Here are some shots of the day.

Fortunately for me, I didn't have to worry much about missing any of the big moments during the ceremony - they don't do any sort of ring exchange or first kiss. Strange....but I guess that's their culture. Andrew and Florina did get rings for each other, though they didn't wear them around the family. I'm not sure if it's looked down upon, but I could tell they were nervous every time I asked for the rings to do pictures. As soon as we were done with pictures, they immediately took the rings back off.

The ceremony, though long, was entertaining. It was sort of like a concert, really. There were a couple different preacher guys, several people who sang, some instrumental portions, and some sort of blessing at the end.

Had to catch some of Mike in action.

They do, however, do the cutting of the cake, which was like 5 tiers high. It was a huge cake.

And there's your walk-through of a Romanian wedding.

Jensen/Petersen {Wedding}

I shot this wedding two weeks ago at the Boise Temple. Well, the pre-ceremony, post-ceremony, and reception anyway. The reception was at the bride's parents' retirement house......MASSIVE, gorgeous house. I wonder what my retirement house will look like! ;)

The Braces Adventure - Can We Move This Along, Already?!

I'm not sure if this process could possibly take ANY longer. Holy hell. If you will recall, my records and impressions appointment was three weeks ago.  At the very end of that appointment, the orthodondist told me that he would call me within two weeks to discuss the ultimate treatment plan, based on my x-rays and impressions and pictures. Great. I'm not in any hurry over here. Take your time.  So two weeks go by and I hear nothing. I text my friend, who works there, and say "it has been two weeks, should I be nervous?" She assured me that everything was fine, they had just been putting in a lot of hours and the orthodontist was working on his calls. Cool. So another week goes by and I just can't hold my patience anymore. I called the office and explained that it had been three weeks, can I get a call back? Of course, the orthodontist called me back within an hour. Naturally.

He confirmed that I do, in fact, need to proceed with the surgery. I didn't doubt that that would change, and had actually accepted it as my fate. Break my face. Cool.  The timeline leading up to this is so freaking drawn out, I'm going to go nuts. They are booked out until the end of April. So at the end of April, I go in and they place some spacer bands around my teeth, which I get to wear for two wonderful weeks. Including my time in Disneyland. Happiest place on Earth, remember? Once we get back from Disneyland, I go back to the office, they pull out the bands, fit the metal bands that will hold the expander, take another impression, put the original bands back on, and ship the impression off to the lab where they will make the expander. This takes another two weeks. So now we are at the end of May. MAY. The end of May, I go in and have the expander placed and cemented to my teeth. Then I'm free to have the surgery, which they recommend taking place on a Friday.

I would like to say that in my adult years, I have gained a healthy amount of patience.  Especially the years since I turned 25 and started having kids. Loads of patience have been gained. Trust me. However, this process of doing braces is threatening to wipe out all that progress I have made. Seriously - let's get moving!

Elisabeth & Kids {family}

I have had a few shoots already this year, and I wanted to share this one. I had one a few weeks ago that was an absolute NIGHTMARE. So I really don't care to share anything from that. Out of sight, out of mind, right?

I met up with this family last weekend. Elisabeth's kids were so cute, well-behaved, and had the right amount of goofy in them. We had a fun stroll around Kathryn Alberton Park (which is covered in goose poo right now.....the one thing I hate about spring shoots).  Here are some samples from our afternoon.

 I swear, this girl was full of the best out-takes!
