Another Day on the Water

I know we were just playing in the water yesterday.  And I know I just wanted a relaxing weekend to be lazy before Eric takes off to Stanley for a month....but Carter talked me into the water again today. Honestly, he didn't even mention the river.  He just said "swimming" and I figured we could drive a whole five minutes out of our way and enjoy the gorgeous day outside.  So I'm a push-over....and I can't deny my boy's baby-blues.  You try it.  So off to the river we went.

And of course, Carter spent much of the time throwing rocks.  And Eric and I had a friendly competition to see who could throw a rock all the way across the river. (I won, shhhh)

And we actually walked all the way across the river too - it wasn't deep at all where we were.  And there were tons of little baby fish in the water - Carter was beside himself trying to point at every single one!

And I really did try my hardest to get Eric to snap some good pictures of Carter and me because let's face it, I'm always the one BEHIND the camera and it would be nice to have some good ones of just Carter and me.  But teaching a man how to operate this camera just doesn't work - so we got what we got, and I'm good with it.  ;)  The important thing is that we had a great time.

And now we're back home.  The child is in bed.  The windows are open.  And I'm off to read a good book.

A Day at the Beach

So today was supposed to be spent with a big group of friends for a picnic, in lieu of the ridiculously expensive 10 year high school reunion next weekend (which we couldn't attend anyway since one of our friends is getting married the same day).  (was that a long sentence or what?)  But at the last minute, the picnic was cancelled, or so they say.  So we decided to take Carter up to Sandy Point.  This is where we are having his 3rd birthday party, so we wanted to scope it out to make sure it's everything we are looking for.  So we spent a few hours there today and had a fantastic time!

This alligator was given to Carter a while ago - this is the first time we have actually been able to use it since it's so big.  We had kids running up to us the second we set our towels and chairs down, asking if they could ride it.  I politely explained that it was Carter's toy and he hadn't even used it yet.  Which kept the kids at bay for all of 3 minutes.  Then they were surrounding us again.  Sheesh!

It really was a gorgeous day at the beach....not too many people, but enough to provide for some entertaining people watching.....oh please, you do it too.

The water was pretty chilly, so when Carter had enough of the shivering and teeth clattering, he joined me on the towels to soak in the sun. 

And then proceeded to steal MY towel!   The stinker!  So I did what any mom would do - I found something to distract him so that I could get my own towel back. 

This treat worked nicely!

Some of the water toys had Carter intrigued.  This one below was constantly being run by other kids, so Carter never had a chance to turn the wheel and control the water spraying out.  But as we were packing up to leave, we noticed that no kids were around, so we told Carter to run back in the water and give the wheel a good crank.  He loved it!

It was a fun afternoon and I think we'll do just fine with this location for his birthday party.

{Eli} newborn

So here are my pictures from my photoshoot with baby Eli.  This shoot was difficult - the lighting was extremely hard to deal with and it's not like we could just take the little guy outside for ideal lighting.  So we made due, even though I'm not too impressed with what I got.  This is going to take some more practice....which I'm more than willing to do because who doesn't just love newborns?!!!  Anyway, here is a sample of what I was able to capture with Eli and his parents.

Book Review: Crashers

This is a new author to me.  This book was recommended to me by my dad.  I'm not sure where he discovered this book, but it's the author's first book and it's fantastic!  It's gripping - about a crew (called "crashers") who are assigned and respond to airline crashes.  The author, to his credit, obviously did an overwhelming amount of research.  This book was simply amazing and I really hope they make it into a movie.  It's a thriller for sure!!

Remember the wedding I did with the very pregnant bride?  This her little man, Eli, and I had a photoshoot with him today.  He's three weeks old and such a handsome fella!  More to come soon!

Love The Way You Lie

When I first heard this song, I was disgusted. Mostly because it's no secret Rhianna has been through the domestic violence experience. And for her to sing a song advocating it just floored me.  But once I gave the song a chance and actually viewed the music video, my opinion has changed. For those who have never been through it, this is a pretty accurate depiction, and I'm actually glad that Eminem and Rhianna did this song and video.
