Today Sucks

When Carter was born, I had the luxury of having extended maternity leave.  I wasn't working, and really wasn't in a hurry to find a job.  I wanted lots of time home with my new baby.  And two months after he was born, I decided it was time to get back into the working life.  Two months seemed like a good amount of time.....and I acknowledge the fact that I'm not good as a stay-at-home mom.  At least not full time.  I LOVE spending time with my family, but I need more than that.  I need something outside of my home.  So I found a job and that first day at work, which was Carter's first day at daycare, SUCKED.  I hated the fact that he wasn't with me.  But time went on and he thrived with the kids at daycare.

Well today is Kendall's turn.  She's just over 2 months old, so she's experiencing this at the same age her brother did.  And with the same people who watch Carter.  I trust them with Carter, meaning I'm going to have to trust them with her, too.  But damn this day still sucks.  She's not with me.  She's not with Eric.  She's not with anyone in her family.  I have no clue how she will do with these people...or how they will do with her.  I'm glad Carter is there to watch out for his little sister...and maybe he can be my little spy and tell me how things go every day.

But in the meantime, it still sucks.  I won't know when she cries.  I won't know when she looks around to find me and is confused that I'm not there.  I won't know if they stop to hug her and cuddle her if she's fussy. Damn.

Today will be a long day, that's for sure.  And the only thing that makes me feel better is that we have completely adjusted our work schedules so that the kids are only at daycare two days a week.  I can tolerate that.....I can also tolerate my three-day weekends every week.  ;)

I took quite the fall at daycare today and came out of it with a cool shiner! My mom wasn't too impressed but I think it makes me look tough. Battle wounds, ya know?

So I may have started a tad early with the Valentine's Day stuff. However, in my defense, the supplies and candy I needed was on sale at good 'ole Wally World, and I had the extra money. The plan made sense to me! Last year, I did the boring card with candy conversation hearts for all the kids at Carter's daycare. This year, I decided to do something a little more original and creative.

So, I bought several different kinds of candy and these cute candy bags, with shiny, silver twisty-ties.

And, being the ever-organized person that I am, I lined up all the bags and distributed the candy equally.

Then, I wrote the kids' names on their respective bags and added the twisty-ties. And I'm all set to go!

And yes, there was extra candy........so I dumped it in the dish on the kitchen table. The best ones are the hershey kisses that have chocolate on the outside and a cherry filling. To die for!! And the bag was only $1 - score!

Where does the time go?

So far, he has tried the following foods for one week at a time:

pears, squash, bananas, sweet potatoes, peaches, peas, applesauce

Bananas are by far his favorite. He absolutely mows through the bananas - I can’t shovel it in fast enough. He wasn’t too fond of sweet potatoes. He ate them, but it was a battle with the spoon. Everything else, he has done very well with. He’s still on the rice cereal.....we have done the flavored stuff, first banana flavored, then the mixed fruit flavored, now he’s on to just plain oatmeal cereal. He gets the cereal and a bottle right before bed.

He’s doing great at daycare. I am very comfortable with the people he’s going to. I had some issues at first, but we seem to have gotten over those. (I guess it’s only me with the issues, of course)

We had a long battle with a very runny/stuffy nose, which later turned into a double ear infection. That was miserable for everyone in the house. He was up to a 102.4 fever, at which point, I called the doctor. We got him on some meds, and he’s all better. Back to his playful self.

He can roll over.....belly to back, back to belly. We caught that on video.

He responds to his name.....MOST of the time. He loves the TV. Doesn’t matter what is on. We have tried some of the Baby Einstein DVDs (I got a 25 DVD set on e-bay for $62 - sweet!!) and he seems to like those.

He loves his floor toys. The one for his feet....he cracks me up, he lifts the darn thing OFF the floor. He’s a strong little fella! He reaches out for toys and swings them around wildly - sometimes hitting himself in the head or stomach. He doesn’t seem to mind.

He’s becoming so much fun. He’s more and more interactive as time goes on and I love it. He’s so fun to play with now because he’s constantly laughing and squealing with delight. We roll around on the floor and play. We are still working on the sitting up unassisted. He does ok, but still falls to the side or backwards.

We are going to get into swimming lessons in probably a month or so. How exciting!
