Honeymoon Day 3 - Kauai

Day 3 brought a thrilling adventure - a doors-OFF helicopter tour of Kauai.  I mean, if you are going to ride in a helicopter, why NOT do it with the doors off?  We started off the early morning watching the sunrise at Wailua Beach, since it was close to the airport.  There were some locals there, doing some morning fishing.  It was a beautiful sunrise!

We then headed to the airport for our helicopter tour.  We sat through a safety briefing, and then loaded up!  What an adventure it was, especially seeing Na'Pali Coast, which you can only see via boat or helicopter.  Stunning!  Our pilot was amazing, giving us tid-bits and history the entire time, and of course playing the Jurassic Park theme song as we flew over the areas where they filmed the movie.

After the helicopter ride, we changed and headed straight back out for some site-seeing.  First up was Donkey Beach, which is a super cute, secluded beach with a tree tunnel leading up to it.  There were only seven other people there with us.  Win!

From Donkey Beach, we stopped at the Kilauea Lighthouse.

We then made our way down a very narrow "road" to Anini Beach.  There were some spectacular homes back in this area.

For dinner, we headed up and around the island towards Princeville and Hanalei.  We were not at all impressed with Princeville (to uppity and posh for our taste), but we LOVED Hanalei.  A perfect little beach town.  We found a great place for dinner (Kalypso) and then walked over to Hanalei Pier to watch the sunset.

The drive home that night was one of the best - pitch black, windows down, and great music on the radio.
